The development of relationships requires a capacity for “other-centeredness” arising from the development of a sense of self of self as both separate and connected to the “other.” In this group, we will use play, movement, drama, and visual arts to explore the gifts of diversity in relationships while seeking to understand the intersections of both similarities and differences between ourselves and the other. As we explore pieces of ourselves together, we will create both a pendant out of resourced materials symbolizing ourselves as well as a pendant as a Valentine’s gift for a loved one symbolizing the gifts of who they are. This group provides invitations for whole-brain exploration and creativity increasing self-awareness, meaningful social interaction, and connection.

We all store papers throughout our life. Some of them are valuable and keep memories; others, maybe not, and most of the time end up in the trash bin. This group is an invitation to slow down, gathering a collection of fragments of our lives through papers, seeds, and dried flowers. Together we will recycle them, transform them, and make something new through the artistic method of papermaking. Your new renovated paper will then be used to create Valentine’s cards to share with loved ones. Tangible pieces of you shared with another. Through group interaction, craftsmanship, and visual art, this group reduces anxiety, teaches self-soothing increasing general feelings of happiness, develops manual competence increasing overall confidence, and raises emotional awareness, perspective, and empathy. And, Caregivers, your children will walk away with precious gifts to give others.
